When considering the Panasonic TX-P42G20B plasma TV, understand that this television sits as a new model in the Japanese consumer electronics manufacturer’s Viera lineup of TVs. For years, Panasonic has been known as an innovative maker of such flat-panel TVs and this one — with a wide variety of features — will be sure to please most any discerning consumer in the UK, it must be said.
As with many of the better LCD and plasma flat-panel big-screen televisions in the Panasonic lineup, this one includes a couple of handy tuning filters, the first being its Freeview-HD offering. With it, one will be able to tap into more than 100 UK-specific satellite channels for free. As well, there’s no need for satellite dish or any other equipment to get up and running and enjoying these channels.
There’s also a second filter, which is the more commonly-known Freesat feature, though this time it’s offered with HD capability. Once connected to a satellite dish, this filter allows the viewer to access even more free satellite channels than can be found with just the Freeview-HD filter alone. It’s obvious that Panasonic has taken the time to build this TV with a high level of quality and features.
All of the images displayed on the television’s screen come at a viewer in true high definition, meaning that this particular Panasonic does it all in 1080P (pixels). There are a few new-to-Panasonic technologies for enhancing the picture that build on top of the company’s NeoPDP technology suite. Additionally, the TV puts forth a super-fine contrast ratio of 2,000,000 to 1 for very deep blacks and very bright whites.
Panasonic has also included a 600 Hz motion control engine/processor that does a very good job of keeping track of all the action occurring on the screen. In other words, there’ll be little or no evidence of any blurring or smearing or any artifacts left behind, especially during quick action depictions. Panasonic uses what it calls “Intelligent Frame Creation Pro” to handle all this movement.
New to this lineup of Panasonic televisions is the WiFi and Skype-ready features that only require use of a USB adapter and optional dongle to make it all happen. The company says that the plasma screen included in the television will last for over 100,000 hours. It’s probably a good bet that the TV will outlast its users, in other words. Additionally, the TV can be connected to a wide variety of devices quite easily.
As evidence of its ease-of-connectivity, Panasonic has included four HDMI input ports, Ethernet and audio outs and two different USB 2.0 ports. If desired, a user can connect a laptop or PC to the TV in no time at all and the TV also has an SD memory card slot to bolster its functions. As far as sound goes, it’s first-rate and includes Dolby THX surround sound functionality.
When looked at in its entirety, there’s much to be pleased about when it comes to the Panasonic TX-P46G20B plasma screen television. It’s a noticeable improvement over the older line of TVs it’s meant to replace, as well, and it also looks stylish in glossy piano black.
